If you’re looking for a vintage Gibson SG without character and history behind it, buy a reissue. If you’re looking for the complete opposite, then you’ve found a hidden gem!
Up for sale is a 1967 Gibson SG Junior! I recently acquired this guitar from the brother-in-law of a 56 year owner. This SG Junior was purchased by its second owner in 1968 from a pawn shop and owned it until his recent passing. During that time, it was used in many performances and the dings, scratches and FINISH CHECKING are all there to prove it. This guitar has the most amazing, natural “patina” to it. I’ve done my best showcasing this 57 year old guitar but am limited to 25 pictures. If you have questions, I’ll try my best to answer them to the best of my knowledge.
Starting at the body, all hardware appears to be original. The original P-90 pickup is hot and controlled by the original tone and volume knobs that have aged well. The input jack has deeper scratches around it but a cable plugs in fine. The vibrola functions great! The original pick guard has scratches and swirling but is screwed on by screws that have great patina. It appears that there may have been a paint job done at some point to the bottom of the guitar around the strap button. The rosewood fretboard has wear but no divots. At some point in time there was a refret and whoever did it left tooling marks on the fretboard. You can see this if you zoom in on that picture. The back of the neck has finish checking, minimal dings and scratches but the finish is still there. The headstock has some chips but has never received any repairs and the open back tuners appear to be original and function as they should. There is NO manufacturer case candy or paperwork included. I just purchased an authentic, brand new brown Gibson SG original hardshell case for this that retailed for $214. This guitar will be shipped in that.
I own some HEAVY Les Paul’s and holding this is like playing a feather. Weight is 6 lbs 8 oz.
